Chicago Teachers Union endorsed Will Guzzardi for 39th House Rep.

Will Guzzardi

In a major development in the campaign for State Representative in the 39th District, the Chicago Teachers Union announced its support for progressive Democrat Will Guzzardi.

“From opposing school closings to working for an elected school board, Will Guzzardi has stood side by side with us and fought passionately to defend quality public education,” said CTU president Karen Lewis. “Guzzardi is the right choice for our teachers and our children, and we are proud to endorse him.”

Guzzardi is challenging six-term incumbent Toni Berrios in the March 18th Democratic primary. Guzzardi ran a grassroots campaign for the same seat in the 2012 primaries, falling short of Berrios by only 125 votes in that election.

The Chicago Teachers Union’s endorsement comes with an investment of financial resources and organizing infrastructure. Next weekend, the Guzzardi campaign will continue to build on this momentum at its “Educators for Guzzardi” canvass, where dozens of teachers and parents will walk the 39th District talking to voters about strengthening our schools and providing a top-notch education for all children in our community.

“I’m so proud to receive the Chicago Teachers Union’s endorsement in this race,” said Guzzardi. “Together we’ll continue organizing to ensure that every child in Chicago and across our state can attend a great public school in their community.”
