The average teacher pension in Illinois is around $40 thousand a year. The teacher has paid 10% of their salary into the retirement system. They receive no social security benefits. This has outraged the editors of the Chicago Tribune and the state legislature.
Just to be clear, the Tribune and the pols are outraged that it is too much, not too little.
Tony Hawyard, is about to be retired and replaced as a result of the BP eco-disaster in the Gulf. He will retire with an annual pension of $1 million.
