Bank Street’s Occasional Papers 27. The accountability movement.

I am honored to be asked to contribute to Bank Street College of Education’s on-line publication Occasional Papers #27.

The theme of this issue is Challenging the Politics of the Teacher Accountability Movement: Toward a More Hopeful Educational Future.

Occasional Paper#27 is divided into three sections. Two weeks ago, articles analyzed the language and values that frame the accountability movement.

Two weeks from now, the articles look to the future and propose new ways of looking at the issue.

Today’s release includes dispatches from the field.

It includes my article, “If we look to buy the cheapest paper, why not the cheapest teachers.” The title quotes a right-wing critic of our local school board.

It’s unusual for a K-5 teacher to be asked to contribute to a collection which also includes articles by Greg Dimitriadis, Marc Lamont Hill, Jeff Duncan-Andrade, Celia Genishi, Anne Haas Dyson, Kevin Kumashiro, Erica Meiners, Debbie Meier, Pedro Noguera, Diane Ravitch, Raymond Sanders, Gil Schmerler and Peter Taubma. Thanks to the editors, William Ayers and Gail Boldt

  1. That’s a heck of a piece over there at Bank Street. Now that we know you can write that well, we’ll be looking for improvements over here at headquarters.

      1. I jest, of course. The writing here at headquarters is excellent. I’m trying to work in a remark about hindquarters, but it’s taking too long to think of.
