  1. I got the memo–forwarded. Sorry, Bob, Cinda and company are coming to the party a little late (just as they have been with regard to our pension struggles–oh, & those are ongoing: what are they doing for IEA members in that respect now?). I guess–if nothing else–the IEA leadership is consistent.

Having said that,Bob, perhaps you know the reasons for which Cinda was in Charlotte for the DNC. Was she meeting with Gov. Quinn & House Speaker Madigan to help us in our pension fight? Was she there to speak to Arne Duncan about the idiocy of “standardized” testing, and the waste of billions of dollars, which could directly be used to improve and to enrich curriculum? Did she go to have a private audience with President Obama to tell him
that he needs to put a stop to Race to the Top, and to replace Duncan with–oh, say a professional educator, like Dr. Diane Ravitch or Dr. Linda Hammond-Darling? And–last but not least–who paid for this trip? Members of the IEA–from their dues, perhaps? Inquiring minds want to know: answers, please!

Also, nowhere on the CTU’s Solidarity Page was the IEA listed (the IFT is, & the IEA
would have been above that, as the list is alphabetical). I just checked ten minutes ago, expecting to see IEA. As per usual, nada. (Please don’t say that the NEA is listed…so is the AFT, but the IFT added their support as a state affiliate. Considering we’re all in Illinois, it would behoove the IEA leadership to have its organization listed.)

Oh, BTW–I am now watching the ugly CPS commercial criticizing the teachers strike & the CTU (10:30 PM, Channel 5). I just saw it on Channel 7 about 2 minutes ago. Yesterday, I saw it twice w/in 10 minutes–at 10:30, and then at about 10:40, after the first “Nightline” segment.

Since the talks seem to be headed somewhere, you would think that they’d stop showing these contentious ads. Sigh. They’ll probably continue to show them even AFTER the strike is settled, the contract ratified. Double sigh.
