  1. So Fred, what is your point? That people have been crying wolf for 30+ years and we are still here? The pessimist’s way of looking at it would be that folks were right in 1978 and it has just taken longer than expected due to astute financial wizardry, tax increases and selling long lived assets like toll bridges and parking meters.
Any bankruptcy lawyer will tell you that a company is practically bankrupt long before the legal process starts in court. Question is how close are s the city and state in practical terms, not legal. We can hang on for a while, maybe a long while, but unless the deficits get under control and we see real economic growth we are ultimately doomed.
We know where we are going and we are well on our way.

  2. I believe Chicago has already surpassed both Detroit and New York in the number of stop-and-frisks — 250,000 in just 3 months last summer. Motown and NY would be a step up. Don’t you think?

  3. I tend to be the pessimist. The hole is pretty deep and will take a long time to get out of, a real long time, but, hey, maybe we can tread water for ever,
People have been crying wolf for a long time, and have been basically right. We are in deep do do, and it ain’t getting better.
